Outback shire councils are entering a new era with three mayors elected at Bourke, Brewarrina and Walgett last week.

Councillor Tommy Stanton was elected last week as Mayor of Brewarrina Shire for the next two years, joining Bourke Councillor, Lachlan Ford, who taking on the mayoral role previously held by long-serving Bourke Mayor Barry Hollman.

Meanwhile, Jasen Ramien returns to the helm as Mayor of Walgett Shire.

Formerly the Deputy Mayor of Bourke Shire Council, and a councillor for 14 years, Lachlan Ford now has the top job as Mayor of Bourke Shire Council but said that he is still getting used to the job.

“It’s still very fresh,” Mr Ford said. “To be elected to council by the ratepayers is an amazing feat on its own. I have been Deputy Mayor for the last eight years and I am now very proud and honoured to be Mayor of Bourke.”
