Market magic returns to Lightning Ridge

The iconic Lightning Ridge Sunday markets are back up and running after a summer break, with organisers hoping the upcoming Easter Festival will bring a welcome boost in both stallholders and visitors.
Market coordinator Trudy Stahmer said the long-running markets, held from 7am to 12pm at Lions Park, were on weekly for much of the year, and have only just resumed following the seasonal shutdown.
“Everyone loved the local markets, and they have been going for decades,” Ms Stahmer said.
“Due to the heat and a lot of local people heading to the coast over summer, we shut them down and we have just got back into it at the start of March. Numbers are still building as everyone gets back into town and the tourism season builds up.
“We probably have about a third of the stall holders, but they are starting to trickle back.”
Despite the slow start, Ms Stahmer said Easter is expected to significantly lift activity, with the weekly Sunday markets expanding to cater for increased demand. […]
