Louth lets loose!

More than 5,000 racegoers converged on the Louth Races on Saturday, with the village hosting a hugely successful country race meeting.

An official crowd of 5,357 attended the seven-race program with $100,000 in prize money.

Louth Race Club President Jim Strachan said the day lived up to expectations.

“It was a terrific day – we had a strong crowd, very good racing and an excellent atmosphere,” Jim said. “You couldn’t ask for more than that.”

The feature Louth Cup was won by Macleay, trained by Jane Clement and ridden by jockey Billy Cray.

Nine horses contested the Cup, with Mr Strachan describing it as a fitting feature race in a strong day of racing.

“It was a great race,” he said. “And we had terrific racing throughout the whole day.”

The celebrations were expected to continue for the winning connections, with the race club predicting there would be “a few beers drunk out of the Cup at the Mendooran Pub” following Macleay’s victory. […]
