Local Rural Fire Brigades and local firefighters recognised

The Brewarrina and Twin River Rural Fire Brigades and the two local RFS leaders – Group captain David Caswell and Captain David Betts have all been recognised in this years St Florian’s Day fire fighting awards at the RFS training Centre in Dubbo.

The Brewarrina and Twin River Rural Fire Brigades have been recognised for going beyond the call of duty, and for their dedication and stamina when responding to a head-on collision between two B-double trucks on the Kamileroi Highway just west of Brewarrina on Monday 19 February 2022.

Following the collision, an explosion engulfed both trucks in fire, resulting in the tragic loss of both drivers.

Brewarrina Fire and Rescue NSW responded to the incident and called for the assistance of the Twin Rivers, the Bourke Headquarters and Far West 2 brigades.

Despite the challenges of working in the dark on a large culvert and uneven terrain, and a lack of continuous water supply, after many hours, the fires were brought under control. […]
