Member for Barwon Roy Butler has welcomed the Minns Labor government’s ongoing commitment to working with the community to address youth crime, with the announcement of over $4 million to continue place-based efforts across Bourke and Kempsey.

Mr Butler has reiterated his commitment to work closely with the Premier Chris Minns and Police Minister Yasmin Catley to tackle the concerning rates of youth crime across the area and create safer communities.

“This funding builds on the NSW government’s ongoing work to address regional youth crime across the state, which has included legislative reform, investment in local initiatives and a statewide parliamentary inquiry into the matter,” Mr Butler said.

“Government support for place-based initiatives reflects the fact that a one size fits all approach does not work for issues like youth crime in regional communities.

“This funding means local communities are empowered to make decisions, develop strategies, design programs, and decide how resources are used to address local needs. […]
