Lightning Ridge students return for a hands-on term

As students return to Lightning Ridge Central School for Term 4, the Hands-on Learning group is gearing up to complete the final stage of their project at the Wandella Education and Research Precinct on the Lightning Ridge Opal Reserve.

Wellbeing teacher Damian Flaherty, who coordinates the program, said the group will spend the first few weeks of the new term finishing a shade structure at the site before the summer heat sets in. He said the initiative has been so successful that it will continue at the school next year.

“We’re going to finish off our project out at the opal reserve and maybe do a few odds and ends around school,” Mr Flaherty said. “The program will run again next year, which is really good. We’ve sort of committed to keep it going, because there are so many things out there that can expand on what we’ve started.” […]
