Lighting up the Christmas Bridge at Bre
Last Thursday night, the Barwon River at Brewarrina reflected light and colour under the Grand Opening of the festive Christmas lights on the old Brewarrina Bridge.
Several hundred people turned up at the grand opening to see the lights turned on, enjoy some festive cheer, and wish each other a Merry Christmas.
The Brewarrina Shire Council’s new Coffee Van was onsite. Shire staff served an appreciative crowd cold drinks, slushies, and ice cream.
The Brewarrina Shire council general manager, David Kirby, climbed up on the bridge railing, declared it was almost 140 years old, and addressed the crowd.
Mr Kirby said that the response from the Brewarrina community far exceeded his expectations.
“I don’t think many people are left uptown tonight because they are all down here at the bridge,” he said. “We all have fond memories of growing up in Brewarrina and swimming here and jumping off the old bridge and having fun.” […]
