Learning on Country inspires Collarenebri students

Learning on Country has given 12 Collarenebri Central School students a deeper appreciation of the region’s rivers, wetlands and Aboriginal cultural knowledge after taking part in the Winanga-li Gunimaa Gali wetlands camp.

The students joined Elders, Aboriginal custodians, researchers and environmental specialists for the program, where they explored local river systems, wetlands, native vegetation, birdlife and the importance of caring for Country.

Collarenebri Central School principal Fiona Donnelly said the experience provided students with an education that simply could not be replicated in the classroom.

“The students learned a lot about their environment, which was excellent, and it’s the best learning that you can do,” Mrs Donnelly said. […]
