The historic Hungerford Pub, famous for hosting poet Henry Lawson in 1892, has closed.
The Hungerford Hotel, built in 1873, served its final customers last week before turning off the beer taps and closing its doors. Over the decades, the pub has witnessed births, deaths and marriages within its walls, has hosted politicians, sports stars and a world-famous anthropologist. It has also been home away from home for countless local people across the Bulloo and Bourke Shires and a welcome oasis for tired and thirsty travellers.
Licensee Graham Fitch said the time had come to find a new owner and licensee but will keep the premises running for accommodation for travellers between Bulloo Shire to Bourke and beyond. […]
