Last days of holiday fun across the outback

With school set to return in just a few days, young people across Bourke, Brewarrina and Walgett shires have been making the most of a busy spring holiday program – and there is still some fun to squeeze in before the break ends.
Across the three shires, activities have ranged from swimming, sport and movies to arts and crafts, skateboarding, circus skills, and outdoor adventures.
In Bourke, youngsters have had a varied program, including a cultural excursion to Mt Gundabooka.
The visit was led by Maranguka and gave the kids an opportunity to get out of town and spend time at one of the shire’s most significant natural and cultural locations.
Other activities during the first week included Cirqueumnavigate Circus and Magic sessions, cooking with Keshia, barefoot bowls, a movie night, and Songline Skateboarding.
The opening of Bourke Swimming Pool for the 2026-27 season on September 26 also provided another option as the weather warmed, with a BBQ and games afternoon held at the pool during the holidays. […]
