The iconic Koori Rugby League Knockout began in 1971 and highlights from over half a century of the much-loved event are currently on display at the Brewarrina Big Sky Library.
The Koori Rugby League Knockout Carnival is one of the biggest Indigenous gatherings in Australia.
In 1971 at the Clifton Hotel in Redfern, six young Aboriginal men created what is today the largest gathering of First Nations peoples in NSW — known as the Koori Knockout.
The event is now a fixture in the First Nations calendar and is the biggest rugby league knockout carnival anywhere in the world.
The State Library of New South Wales has curated an exhibition displaying important memorabilia, photos, oral histories, and recordings from those who have helped shape the Koori Knockout competition over the years.[…]
