Keeping our kids safe on the road

The Bourke District Children’s Service, together with Central North Police District and Transport for NSW, have all combined forces to encourage local parents and carers to properly restrain their children when driving.
Chief Inspector Helen Dean said that the campaign came about after Senior Constable Dan Vituseck found that there were high numbers of unrestrained children in cars in Bourke.
“Constable Vituseck, or ‘Wanaaring Dan’ as the locals know him, said that when he pulled parents over, he found that many parents could not afford or fit child seats,” Chief Inspector Dean said.
“Dan has a small child, so he’s very aware of the safety of kids and childcare seats. So, he approached Transport for New South Wales, along with the Bourke District Children’s Service and Transport for New South Wales, donated a couple of seats towards an awareness campaign on using proper child restraints.”
Last week BDCS staff members and officers attached to Central North Police District continued the initiative to get the child safety message out to parents and carers.
Two Highway Patrol Officers from Cobar – Senior Constables Brendan Falzon and Josh Mainey – both trained in installing child restraints – assisted two lucky families in installing free seats for their children. […]
