Jimmy Samuels wins Brewarrina Quickshears

New Zealand’s Jimmy Samuels took out the Bre Quickshears competition on Saturday after skimming off a fleece in an impressive 26.86 seconds.

A makeshift shearing venue popped up at the Bre RSL on Saturday, hosting over five hundred people who came to watch or compete in the Quickshears event.

Organiser, Taniell Pokarier-Baker from LuSid Shearing said entries came in across six different divisions and Jimmy Samuels’ win capped off a long run of shearing success.

“It was a milestone for Jimmy –  it was his 70th open win and he did so well,” Taniell said.

“So did everyone who competed – it was a great day, and the crowd was amazing.”

Taniell Pokarier-Baker and her partner, Kyle Brown operate LuSid Shearing out of Weilmoringle and started the Quickshears event last year to promote the local shearing industry.

The competition attracted competitors from all over the eastern states, as well as New Zealand.

While there was plenty of food and refreshments on offer, one food vendor went over and above to help a local school.

“Tom King came down from Cunnamulla with his wood fire pizzas and when we had a couple of sheep left unshorn, he said he would have a go,” Taniell said.

“He got on the mike and said he would watch a few YouTube videos as he’s never shorn a sheep before and would donate the money raised to the Weilmoringle School. He ended up raising $615.” […]
