Indigenous Rangers call for new approach to dingoes

Indigenous Rangers area calling for a new approach to dingo management in NSW to incorporate ‘non-lethal’ management strategies.

Last week the Minyumai Rangers of the Bandjalang Clan near Evans Head presented a First Nations Dingo Declaration to the NSW parliament, highlighting the deep cultural significance of the dingo to First Nations people across NSW.

The Minyumai Rangers were joined by three rescue dingo puppies, giving MPs the chance to meet the animals face-to-face.

The Minyumai Rangers manage a 2000-hectare property bordering the Bundjalung National Park on the NSW north coast and are undertaking a monitoring program to better understand the local dingo population.

The rangers claim that dingoes keep landscapes healthy by controlling the population of kangaroos, eradicating feral goats and controlling feral pigs, cats and foxes. […]
