Indigenous Games to unite students at Goodooga

A NSW Department of Education award has provided the perfect lead-in to this week’s Goodooga Central School Indigenous Games, with the long-running event recognised for its contribution to education, culture, and community.

Just hours before welcoming students from across NSW to Goodooga, Principal Malcolm Banks accepted the NSW Department of Education’s Secretary’s Award for Outstanding School Achievement on behalf of the school, recognising the Indigenous Games.

It was a fitting lead up to the school welcoming approximately 45 schools and about 700 students, plus staff, to take part in the Indigenous Games, which begin with an opening ceremony in the Cultural Gardens before a full day of traditional Aboriginal games at the community oval. Visiting schools arrived in Goodooga during the week, with approximately 550 to 600 students staying overnight ahead of the event.
