Hopes for a Bourke Community Choir revival

A push to revive a community choir in Bourke is gaining early momentum, with Moorambilla Voices working alongside local educators to help bring people back together through song.

Jodie Farrell, from Moorambilla Voices, said the visit to Bourke was an opportunity to support local efforts already underway, particularly those led by Bourke High School’s music teacher Aaron Trew.

“Mr Trew is eager to get some people involved and restart the choir,” Ms Farrell said. “There’s been a community choir here before, but it’s in abeyance at the moment.”

On Sunday afternoon, Moorambilla Voices brought around 15 people together for an initial session, which Ms Farrell described as a promising start.

The organisation, known for its work with young people across rural New South Wales, was in Bourke primarily to deliver music workshops in local schools, but saw the visit as a chance to reconnect the wider community with singing. […]
