Honouring our Elders
NAIDOC Week 2023 is dedicated to celebrating and recognising the invaluable role of our Elders under the theme “For Our Elders.”
Elders have held a significant position in our communities and families throughout history and the present.
They are guardians of cultural knowledge, trailblazers, nurturers, advocates, teachers, survivors, leaders, hard workers, and beloved family members.
From Sunday, July 2 until Sunday, July 9, NAIDOC Week is a time for reflection and appreciation.
However, schools in Lightning Ridge and Goodooga honoured this special occasion early, aligning their celebrations with the final week of the school term.
On Monday, June 26, Little Diggers Pre School hosted a morning tea for the Elders of Lightning Ridge, followed by a delightful three-course luncheon at the Lightning Ridge Central School.
