Holiday program keeps Brewarrina kids busy

Though school holidays may already seem like a distant memory for Brewarrina’s young people, the packed winter holiday and NAIDOC program left plenty of lasting memories.
Across the two-week break, hundreds of children, young people, families and Elders took part in a diverse range of cultural, recreational and educational activities across Brewarrina and Goodooga, with Brewarrina Shire Council describing the program as one of its most successful yet.
Council General Manager David Kirby said it was rewarding to see so many young people embracing the activities on offer.
“It was amazing. I looked across the road in the park each day, and the kids were having a ball this winter school holiday period,” Mr Kirby said.
“The number of activities that they get to go through during just that two-week period was quite exciting.”
One of the biggest highlights was the Family Fun Day at Memorial Park, which attracted more than 200 people. The event featured weaving workshops, arts and crafts, bush medicines education, bush food tasting, laser tag, a rock-climbing wall, live entertainment and a colouring competition, with prizes including iPads, scooters and a bubble machine.
