History on two wheels rolls into Burren Junction

Visitors to Burren Junction now have a new reason to stop beyond the town’s famous bore baths, with the official opening of a community museum and a unique heritage trail bringing more than a century of local history to life.

History, art and community came together on Friday, July 24, when the Burren Junction School of Arts Hall hosted the official opening of the Burren Junction Museum, the launch of the Burren Junction Historic Bicycles Walk and a community art exhibition featuring local and regional artists.

The projects marked the culmination of almost two years of volunteer effort and community collaboration, supported by Walgett Shire Council funding, to preserve the town’s history while creating a new tourism experience.

Burren Junction Progress Association publicity officer Kate Schwager said the idea for the bicycle trail grew from a simple suggestion to brighten the town.

“A couple of girls came up with, ‘Let’s pretty up the town and put coloured bikes everywhere,’ and then the suggestion came, ‘Well, let’s pick some sites because there’s so much history here,’” Ms Schwager said. […]
