Local boxing star, 16-year-old Harrison Simmons from Bourke took his sporting career to the next level on Saturday, claiming the Australian 63.5kg Global Amateur Boxing Title in Dubbo.
Local boxing star, 16-year-old Harrison Simmons from Bourke took his sporting career to the next level on Saturday, claiming the Australian 63.5kg Global Amateur Boxing Title in Dubbo.

Fighting in the main event of the Carnage fight series, promoted by Dubbo gym owner and Harrison’s coach Chris Hallford, Harrison secured a unanimous points decision victory - a clean sweep across all three judges’ scorecards.

“He performed really, really well,” Mr Hallford said. “All three judges thought Harrison won every round. He’s now the new Australian Global Champion. It’s probably the biggest amateur title in Australia.”

Mr Hallford has coached Harrison for the past three years at Fighting Arts Dubbo, and said the young fighter has transformed both inside and outside the ring.

“He was a little bit troubled as a child,” Mr Hallford said. “Now, he’s turning into a very respectful, very disciplined young man and I’m very proud of him.” […]
