A career as a counsellor is beckoning hardworking Walgett Community College student, Lirra Dennis.

The Year 12 student has jumped an important hurdle in her quest to study psychology at Macquarie University.

Lirra recently took a huge step on the Walanga Muru Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Entry Pathway, travelling to Sydney for an interview.

She made a strong impression on campus, receiving encouraging feedback and the news a formal offer was highly likely to be made in September, upon successful completion of her Year 12 studies.

Between now and then, Lirra will continue to work hard, inspired by the school’s counselling staff such as Emerson Nottingham, who accompanied her on the early morning drive to Dubbo and flight to Sydney.

Lirra said her school has “amazing counsellors”.
