Happy birthday to Lois, Jack and Cliff!

Bourke is fortunate to have many living treasures enjoying long, healthy and productive. These elderly citizens have lived their lives, worked hard, and raised their families in Bourke with dignity and respect.

Amongst these treasures is Lois Willoughby, who many local baby boomers will fondly remember running the Bourke Swimming Pool for many years with her husband Frank. Lois and Frank contributed much during their lives – especially in business and civic affairs. Lois celebrated her 90th birthday on Monday 27 July.

Jack Bennett also raised 4 children in Bourke after marrying his teaching wife Terri. Both Jack and Terri contributed much to the civic life of this town. Jack spent many years on Council dispensing his wisdom while Terri is remembered by many as a gentle soul and a respected teacher Jack lost Terri some years ago, and on 22 July, he reached the grand age of 98 years.

Cliff Whyte is a legend of Bourke who came to town in the mid-1950’s and married local girl Josie Hollman. Cliff is very well known due to his many years of working on the front desk at the Bourke Post Office. He has also contributed in many ways to the Bourke community, including as a stalwart of the Bourke Cycling Club in its hey day and in the local Catholic Parish. Cliff reached the amazing age of 99 on Monday 27 July and looks as fit as ever. He tells a few good stories too.

Congratulations to Lois, Jack and Cliff and may they be blessed with more years and much happiness with their families.
