For 50 years, Duncan’s Fashions have been trading in the Walgett Shire. The Macdonald family had three stores at one time, located at Collarenebri, Walgett, and Lightning Ridge.

It began when Duncan MacDonald and his wife Jan purchased their first store from Ness Kerr in 1972 at Collarenebri after much deliberation. Ness believed Duncan was the right man to take on the business, and even though money was an issue - there was none - Ness and Duncan came to an agreement, and Duncan’s Fashions was born.

From what daughter Donna recalls, “It was a clothing store with some footwear, and it was a very old shop with wooden shelves. Over the years, Dad did renovations and extensions, and the store kept evolving to stay in business.”

In 1993 Duncan’s Fashions opened their second store in Lightning Ridge, followed by a third store in Walgett in 2004, with son Paul assisting with renovations.

Sadly, Duncan passed away in 2006. The family worked hard to keep his legacy alive by running all three stores. Unfortunately, the Collarenebri store closed a few years after Duncan’s passing.

It was a sad day when Jan also had to close the doors at Walgett in 2016.
