Goodooga-Lightning Ridge CWA — Raising Awareness of Breast Cancer – and money, too!

The Goodooga-Lightning Ridge branch of the CWA has had plenty of reasons to celebrate lately.

This includes the annual Pink Ribbon Breakfast to aid breast cancer research and the remarkable milestone of one hundred years of service to the community.

Current Vice-President of Goodooga-Lightning Ridge CWA, but President at the time of the centenary celebration, Maude Harrison, had the pleasure of welcoming guests to celebrate the important occasion.

Visitors included CWA State President Joy Beames, Barwon Group President Chris Ford, representatives of Sister Branch Somersby – Judy Grenfell and Liz Lazarony, Northland Group representative, Bev Britton and Roy Butler’s senior staff member John Clements who represented the Member for Barwon.

“The Goodooga CWA branch was founded on October 25, 1924, and incorporated Lightning Ridge in 2009,” Ms Harrison said.

“Over the years, the branch members have proudly carried forward the vision and legacy of our pioneering members. From the very beginning these trailblazing women set a strong foundation that we continue today.”

The Goodooga-Lightning Ridge CWA has evolved significantly over the decades, adapting to the times while remaining active and relevant. The members are proud of how they have grown and how they continue to foster connections with likeminded women, staying true to the core CWA mission, and improving the lives of women and families across the state.

At the event, Patron of the Barwon Group and Life member of the Goodooga-Lightning Ridge Branch Winsome O’Brien gave a history of the branch and Joy Beames presented Jeanette O’Brien with her 50 years’ service badge. […]
