After just a few years in the music industry, former Bourke boy and rising country music singer Will Alexander has picked up a Golden Guitar at the Tamworth Music Awards.

Will’s beautiful ballad, ‘Wild Roan Brumby’, was named Country Ballad of the Year, and the Golden Guitar award has put him front and centre of the thriving and highly competitive Australian country music scene.

Will was in a state of disbelief following the win at the annual Tamworth Music Festival over the Australia Day long weekend. In fact, he was back at work the next day, working hard as a station hand on properties around Dubbo.

As far as authenticity goes, you don’t get more country than Will, born and bred in Bourke and determined to stay true to his country roots.

“I love music but I’m not sure the music lifestyle loves me,” he said. “My dream is to one day own a station and breed cattle and I would love it if my music meant I could do both.

“An important part of being an artist for me is being on the land and telling my stories.  The stories come when they come – I’m not a writer who can sit down and just throw one out, but as long as they come, I’ll keep writing them,” he said. […]
