Giving local Landcare a boost

Both based in Bourke – Tegan Roberts and Kelly Lawson are new to Western Landcare, and they hope to reinvigorate local Landcare groups.

Both women are employed as local Landcare Coordinators with Tegan covering the northern region for Western Landcare and Kelly doing a similar role but more focussed on grants and projects.

They are both getting to know the area and are urging interested people to get in touch.

“While Tegan was being recruited, I went out and introduced myself to some people, so there are landholders out there who know me already,” Kelly said.

Tegan said that Landcare is all about connecting with landholders and community members who want to protect and sustain the land.

“Currently, I’ve been reconnecting with our Landcare groups and trying to reestablish our relationships with them,” she said.

“We joined Mount Hope Landcare group in a meeting to help sort out their needs. I have also been out with the Local Land Services biosecurity officer to assist another Landcare group to collect their baits ready for their on-farm baiting program.”

Tegan said that she and Kelly collaborate with the Local Land Services in their baiting and pest management and assist with their grant funding support.

“We can be really specific and tailor Landcare activities to other on-farm activities are, and their needs for a particular environment.” […]
