Get behind the Census – Chaffey

Outback residents are being encouraged to take part in next week’s national Census, with Federal Member for Parkes Jamie Chaffey saying the information collected will play a vital role in securing future funding and services for rural communities.

Census night is next Tuesday 11 August 11, when all households are asked to complete a Census form, providing a snapshot of who is living in the country and where.

Conducted every five years by the Australian Bureau of Statistics, the Census collects information on population, housing, employment, education, transport, health, and cultural diversity. Governments, councils, businesses, and community organisations use the data to help plan services and infrastructure for years to come.

For rural communities, where population numbers can fluctuate and services are often stretched, accurate Census data can have a significant impact on future investment.

Mr Chaffey said it was essential that everyone completed the Census, particularly those living and working in rural and remote Australia. […]
