‘Get Behind It!’ Roadshow heading to Bourke
The Australian government’s Get behind it! community roadshow is visiting the Bourke region to raise awareness of the importance of the National Bowel Cancer Screening Program.
On Saturday 21 September 2024, the roadshow’s event trailer will share lifesaving information with the local community, encouraging people to complete their free test and have conversations with their loved ones about the program.
The roadshow is travelling to low screening communities across Australia to raise awareness and encourage communities to complete their Bowel Cancer Screening test.
With the Bourke average testing rate sitting at just16.8%, there is a greater need to spread awareness about the test in the local community.
The program sends a free at home bowel cancer screening kit every two years to eligible Australians aged 50-74.
Visitors to the Get behind it! community roadshow trailer can learn more about the screening program, re-order their free tests, take home screening reminder merchandise and win daily prizes.
From 1 July 2024, Australians aged 45-49 can join the Program by requesting a free screening kit be sent to them in the mail.
Program Ambassador Dr Andrew Rochford said that it’s important to get out there and talk to communities about the importance of bowel cancer screening and being proactive about our health.
“Regular screening will help to save lives, and I strongly encourage eligible people to do their test when it arrives in the mail and to encourage the people you love to do the same,” Dr Rochford said.
“If you see the community event trailer out on the road, get along and say hello, and find out how this simple and free test is saving lives.”
The Australian government’s National Bowel Cancer Screening Program sends a free home bowel cancer screening kit every two years.
The Program aims to reduce deaths from bowel cancer by detecting early signs of the disease. If found early, more than 90% of cases can be successfully treated. Eligible Australians aged 50 to 74 are mailed a free test done at home every 2 years.
