Ashleigh Gardner, a proud Muruwari woman with links to Weilmoringle, has etched her name in cricket history with a groundbreaking performance during the 3rd One Day International against England at the Bellerive Oval in Hobart on January 17.

Aged 27, Ms Gardner made headlines by becoming the first Aboriginal woman to score an international century. Her incredible innings of 100 runs off 100 balls, which includ-ed eight boundaries and a six, set a new benchmark for women players. Her efforts helped Australia to victory, securing the series against England.

Ms Gardner grew up in a loving and supportive family with her parents Kate and Jim and an older brother Aaron. Her Aboriginal heritage comes from her mother’s side, a proud Muruwari woman, from Weilmoringle. Inspired by her brother’s cricket games, Ms Gardner developed a love for the sport and began playing herself. She made her international debut in February 2017. (…)
