The lyrics of Paul Kelly and Kev Carmody’s From Little Things Big Things Grow reflected a sense of care, respect and optimism in Bourke on Monday as the community gathered to open NAIDOC Week and celebrate 50 Years of Deadly.

The day began with a ceremonial fire in Darling Park, where the community gathered before marching to Central Park. Beverley Moore led the march with the Aboriginal flag, followed by children from the Maranguka Dance Group.

Aunty Priscilla Grimes gave a Welcome to Country, and a minute’s silence honoured Elders who had gone before. The Maranguka Dance Group performed traditional dances, with leader James Moore explaining the stories and cultural significance behind each one. […]
