From fleece to fortune — Brewarrina Quickshear prize pool tops $27K

The Brewarrina Quickshear is back for its third year with an impressive $27,000 in prize money up for grabs. Scheduled for Saturday, August 16th, the event will once again take place in the Brewarrina RSL Club car park, drawing shearers and spectators from across the country.

Organised by Taniell Pokarier-Baker and her partner Kyle Brown from LuSid Shearing at Weilmoringle, the Bre Quickshear event has quickly grown into a headline event on the shearing calendar.

“Last year we had $25,000, which we were really proud of,” Mr Pokarier-Baker said. “But this year we’ve pushed it even further. The Open winner will take home $10,000 – that’s huge for an event like this.”

Shearers will compete across five categories: Novice, Intermediate, Women’s, Opens, and the Owen Murray Memorial Golden Oldies. While the Opens division boasts the richest reward, all sections offer generous prize pools. The Women’s winner will receive $3,000, while even fifth place in the Novice class walks away with cash.

Entry fees range from $30 for the Golden Oldies to $100 for Opens. Nominations will be capped at 100 competitors this year, with women eligible to enter both their category and another, meaning spots will fill fast.
