From Brewarrina and Walgett to Sydney ‘Big Sky’ libraries story showcased

A familiar face from Brewarrina has taken pride of place in the heart of Sydney, with a local library user featured in a major exhibition celebrating 200 years of libraries across New South Wales.
The large-scale outdoor display, currently installed at the State Library of New South Wales, brings together stories from library users across the state, including those from the far west.
Among them is Brewarrina’s Geraldine, whose words are now on show to thousands of visitors passing through the city.
“The library to me is everything, very important,” her panel reads.
“I can come and get my books. I can take home I think it’s six at a time and I’m a speed reader. So, I love the place.”
Her story sits within the exhibition’s “Big Sky Libraries” section, representing the regional library service that supports communities across Brewarrina, Walgett, and Lightning Ridge and Moree.
The exhibition forms part of the State Library’s 200th anniversary celebrations, recognising two centuries of public libraries across NSW and the role they continue to play in people’s lives. […]
