Free camping at Bourke is coming closer

Establishment of a long-awaited free camping area is underway in Bourke, offering travellers another reason to stop and spend time in the Bourke Shire rather than simply passing through.

Bourke Mayor Lachlan Ford said the designated space, which will be located between Bourke and North Bourke, will provide a simple, low-impact camping area for self-contained vehicles and campers to park overnight.

“It’s essentially a parking area where people would be allowed to camp,” he said. “Most towns have an area like that nowadays, and I think it’s important to allow different options for people.”

Councillor Ford was quick to point out that the new camping site is not intended to compete with existing caravan parks and accommodation providers in the town. {…]
