Following in the steps of Mother Theresa

Father Ravi Muvvala, originally from Andhra Pradesh in southern India, is the new leader of the Roman Catholic Parish in Bourke.

Father Ravi left his homeland of India, arriving in Australia in 2012, and made Melbourne home for seven years, training and studying for the priesthood.

“I never imaged I would end up in Bourke. I was studying in Melbourne and I was comfortable there. I loved Melbourne,” Father Ravi said.

“I was interested in the Wilcannia Forbes Diocese when I first heard of it, but I was shocked when I heard that this would be my destination.

Father Ravi said he can use nothing other than the words ‘really shocking news’ when he heard he was headed to the outback diocese, yet he felt ready to come to the destination and obey the Lord.

“Humanly it felt shocking but after praying and committing to the Lord, I knew it was just part of God’s plan.

Before coming to the area Father Ravi said he was fearful of the challenges of the outback, but upon arriving here, his fears have been extinguished because of the community he lives in and serves.
