Flu season is here, are you protected?

As winter fast approaches, Bourke Aboriginal Corporation Health Service (BACHS) is on a mission to keep the community protected against the flu, in some cases by taking the vaccine straight to the people.
Bourke Aboriginal Corporation Health Service Practice Manager, Chelsea Simmonds, said the clinic has rolled out a localised flu vaccination campaign designed to meet people where they are.
“Every year, as we head into flu season, we place a big bulk order of vaccinations and then put together an action plan for the community,” Ms Simmonds said.
That action plan includes delivering vaccinations directly to local workplaces and community hubs.
“We’ve been to the police station, the high school, the public school, and even conducted a clinic out of town at Enngonia,” she said. “We try to go to places where people can’t get away during the day. It’s about making it easier for them.”
While the service is Aboriginal-led, Ms Simmonds was quick to clarify the clinic is open to everyone.
“We vaccinate absolutely everybody who wants a flu shot,” she said. “Anyone from six months and older can book in with BACHS and it’s completely free.” […]
