Investigations continue after a fire left a home in Hope Street, Bourke, almost completely destroyed shortly after 5pm on Friday.

Multiple fire units, ambulance and police attended the fire, which engulfed the roof and most of the structure. Despite their best efforts, the building was almost totally destroyed.

No injuries were reported, however, a pet dog was sadly located deceased inside the home.

Officers attached to Central North Police District attended and established a crime scene. Detectives were present at the scene on Saturday morning conducting further enquires, along with local police.

“This fire is a timely reminder for residents to check that their smoke alarms are functioning as they should be. It’s also a reminder that batteries, particularly lithium should not be left unattended whilst charging,” said Bourke NSW Fire and Rescue captain John Milgate.

It is estimated that seventy-five per cent of the home was destroyed in last Friday’s blaze and that it will no longer be suitable as a dwelling.

As inquiries are ongoing, anyone with any further information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or Bourke police on (02) 6870 0899.
