Fifty ‘Nott’ out for Ben in interstate Masters

Talented Bourke cricketer Ben Nott has returned from Brisbane after helping New South Wales claim the overall Cooper Finlay Cup at the Cricket Masters interstate carnival over the King’s Birthday long weekend.
Representing the NSW Over 50s side, Ben enjoyed a successful tournament, scoring an unbeaten 51 in his team’s opening win before backing up in a rain-affected Twenty20 clash against Queensland.
While his side finished with one win and one loss, New South Wales secured the overall Cooper Finlay Cup, finishing with 15 wins to Queensland’s 13 across the four-day carnival, with a couple of matches washed out.
The Cooper Finlay Cup brings together Masters teams from both states, with 36 matches played across the over 40s, 50s, 55s, 60s, 65s, 70s and women’s divisions.
“I think there were 36 games in total from Saturday to Tuesday,” Ben said. “New South Wales has probably won the last four or five in a row. We’re quite strong in the older age groups.”
Ben said the standard of cricket at the representative level was high, with many players having previously competed at elite levels.
“There were guys that played for Queensland and guys that have played in the Australian setup, so the standard is pretty strong,” he said. “They usually play on excellent wickets, and we play in coloured clothing with umpires and pink balls. It’s a reasonably high standard of cricket.” […]
