Festival fun at Bourke

The Back O’Bourke Easter Festival was a great success and had something for everyone according to Bourke Shire Council General Manager, Leonie Brown. proclaiming it to be a wonderful weekend for the region.

Mrs Brown said the festival weekend was a great celebration and that all events were very well attended and went off without a hitch.

“Despite the many reports of floods and roads being closed, all our events were extremely well patronised and well received by visitors and locals,” Mr Brown said

“There was concern that numbers may have been down this year due to the flooding to the north, east and west of Bourke and the Kamilaroi Road being closed between Walgett and Brewarrina but there were plenty of people around and big crowds at all events.”

“The Back O’ Bourke Picnic Races had a great turnout and was again extremely well organised by the race committee.”

St Ignatius P&F kicked off the festivities in style on Good Friday with registrations of 380 people running, walking, carrying a child or just strolling from the Bourke Wharf – along the Darling River to the Back O’Bourke Exhibition Centre and back.

At the same time several Good Friday church services were well attended as worshippers remembered the Easter message of God’s son Jesus Christ dying on a cross to save the people of the word from their sins. […]
