Fashions on the Field showcases Bourke’s style

The Back O’Bourke Easter Races aren’t just about the four-legged contenders out on the track.

The Fashions on the Field event has grown each year since the race meeting began in 2015 and this year attracted a swag of entrants across all categories.

Former Fashions on the Field winner, and now organiser and judge, Mikaela Bowden, said she was impressed with the number of men, women and youngsters who entered and the high standard of the fashion on show and the attention to detail.

“The competition is a massive drawcard and is so much fun for the stylish ladies and gents in Bourke,” Mikaela said.

“It’s not always about winning, we encourage people to enter for fun and enjoy the opportunity to dress up, which you don’t often get to do in Bourke.

“We had a fantastic response, with about 13 entrants in each category, which we had to cut down to the final five in each.

“The judging panel was really impressed with the standard of the contestants this year, and what we were looking for were the outfits that met the criteria for Autumn/Winter Racewear.

“There are certain requirements for the racewear seasons and Bourke falls into that Autumn category. In the past, it’s been hot on Easter Sunday so we’ve had to relax the rules a little so that contestants could enjoy some comfort, but this year the weather was perfect for the Autumn criteria. […]
