Bourke’s young riders have made a name for themselves in competitions across the country and internationally, and now another young up and coming equestrienne is striving to make her mark.

Elise Smith has shown enormous promise in the show ring as a youngster and now, at the age of 14, is setting some serious goals for herself.

Last week, Elise was given the opportunity to take on a young horse named Jack who is an off the track thoroughbred and seasoned hack.

Over the next few months, she will be competing in both the show jumping and hack events at the agricultural shows around the region with the aim of qualifying for some of the big city events – and next year’s Royal Sydney Easter Show.

“I rode Jack at Coonamble two years ago; I really liked him, and I won Supreme Rider on him,” Elise said.

“His owner has asked me if I’ll take him to competitions this year so I’ll be competing in the hacking events with him at Gilgandra next week, the Bourke Show and many other Western District Agriculture shows.
