A new public art project in Lightning Ridge is transforming discarded mining agitators into large-scale outdoor artworks.

Renowned local artist John Murray is hoping the initiative will bring contemporary street art into the heart of the outback.

Mr Murray, known for his colourful outback style paintings, said the idea grew from his years working with street artists in Melbourne and overseas.

“I’ve been doing street art for a long time in Melbourne, about the last seven years, plus I do a fair bit overseas as well in India, the UK, and Scotland,” he said.

“I thought it would be really good to get some of this art out into the outback so our young kids can see a bit more conceptual street stuff, and not such art gallery-type art. This is stuff they can do in the streets.” […]
