Disallowing the Firearms Buyback
Member for Barwon Roy Butler is hoping that the firearms buyback could be overturned in NSW if his disallowance motion is successful.
Mr Butler moved a motion to disallow the firearms regulations on Tuesday in NSW Parliament and the disallowance motion is expected to be debated in parliament this week.
“The proposed firearms buyback is an enormous waste of taxpayer money for no benefit,” Mr Butler said.
“The problems are being caused by the illegal imported firearms used by western Sydney gangs, not the firearms locked up in the safes of registered owners.”
“This buyback does nothing to improve public safety but has a huge impact on many law-abiding people,” Mr Butler said.
The NSW Labor government rushed the firearms laws through NSW Parliament within a few days last December with the support of the Liberal Party, the Greens and city independents.[…]
