Dave clocks up 60 years, and 25 years on Outback Radio!

An unlikely immigrant from the deep south of the USA, David Sharp has just clocked up 60 years, and entered his 25th year of service as Breakfast Announcer on Outback Radio 2WEB.

David came to Australia from the sunny US state of Florida as a sponsored radio announcer in the year 2000, working as a DJ on the local station at Kingaroy.

After a year there, the station was sold and David found himself looking for a job and a new employment sponsor for his work visa.

At that time (2001) the only similar job going was at 2WEB, so David promptly called the then manager Sue Smith who offered him the job.

“I went through the process of changing jobs with the Department of Immigration and was approved to take over as breakfast host at 2WEB and my first day in the chair was 5 November 2001,” David said.

After some difficulty with visas and migration agents, local Federal MP Mark Coulton advised David to apply for permanent residency and set him up with a reputable migration agent. […]

I wasn’t even planning to change anything about our waste setup in Leicester, UK, but after a chat with another business owner I started looking into alternatives.
