The inaugural Back O’Bourke Ladies Pairs was won by the mother and daughter pairing of Kristi and Holly Anderson from Cunnamulla on Saturday.

Kristi and Holly won the final in convincing fashion from the top Bourke pairs team of Krystal Bock and Alicia Wallace.

Krystal and Alicia put up a good fight in the final, but every time a great bowl was needed, the Cunnamulla players had the answers.

The Cunnamulla team had a great advantage as 18 -year-old Holly Anderson has been the Queensland state under 18’s champion for the past two years and has just been selected in Queensland’s under 25 squad.

Kristi Anderson said that she and Holly were very happy to get the win – especially at the inaugural Back O’Bourke ladies pairs competition.

“We always enjoy coming to Bourke to play bowls and winning the inaugural Back O’Bourke Ladies Pairs was a great honour,” Kristi said.

“Thanks to all the ladies who competed on the day, and I hope we can do it all again next year.”

Eighteen teams competed in warm and sunny conditions with the mercury climbing into the low 30s, and after a series of very competitive matches, the final was played late in the afternoon.

Many of the pairs team were decked out in bright clothing and costumes that added lots of colour to the day.

Four teams travelled to Bourke from the Nyngan Bowling Club and two teams from Cunnamulla.

President of the Bourke Bowling Club Mark O’Shannessy said that the inaugural Back O’Bourke Ladies Pairs had been a great success, and that the competition would continue in 2025.

“I want to thank all the ladies who travelled from Cunnamulla and Nyngan to help make the day a success and thanks also to the Bourke players and everyone who helped on the day – especially tournament organiser Kurt Dickson.
