Court dismisses historic abuse claims against St Ignatius School

A former student’s lawsuit against St Ignatius Parish School in Bourke has been dismissed after the New South Wales Supreme Court found that the alleged physical discipline he endured as a child did not meet the legal threshold for ‘serious physical abuse”.

The plaintiff, Albert Hartnett, sought damages for personal injury claims suffered because of ‘serious physical abuse’ allegedly inflicted on him by two members of the school’s staff, Sister Marietta Green, and Mr Alex ‘Sweeney’ Dixon.

Mr Hartnett claimed this physical abuse took place when he attended infants’ school at Saint Ignatius Parish School between 1992 and 1994. […]
