Excitement is building in the Bourke community with the 2025 Bourke Show just 9 sleeps away – on Saturday 17 May.
President of the Bourke Show Society, Ben Ritchie, says there’s plenty of new events and the ‘old faithfuls’, including a magnificent fireworks display.
Speaking on 2WEB this week, Ben told Rod Corfe, all about the popular ‘Dash For Cash’, the young farmer’s challenge, whip cracking, ring events, the pet and dog shows and the pavilion exhibits.
“The agriculture sector is well-represented with the wool and sheep sections,” Ben said, “and all the wool bales are donated, so even if you don’t win a prize, you’ve still donated to the Bourke Show, which helps us put on things like free entertainment.”
This year includes exciting new events, like the BMX guys, the JC Action Group.
According to Ben, the JC Action BMX boys will bring a truck with a specially designed jump on the back, and they’ll be using scooters, skateboards and BMX bikes.
“They’ll be running three spectacular shows on the day which last for about 30-minutes, and include some pretty exciting high jumps and tricks,” Ben said.
“Don’t forget the sideshow alley with those great rides, entertainment and dagwood dogs and the classic car club will be there, and they’ll be doing a barbecue as well, plus their own competitions for the best cars and bikes.”
Ben said that the Miss and Master Bourke competition is a good way to get the kids to dress up in their very best, and there’ll be live music, horse events, and much more at the 2025 Bourke Show.”
“We will also be selling our raffle tickets at the gate, as well as throughout the day. We were generously donated two Brass Monkey car fridges from Bourke Betta, and we will be raffling those off to some lucky winners!” Ben said.
This year should be a bumper show, with good weather forecast, plenty of fun and enthusiasm in the community.
Ben said the Bourke Show just couldn’t happen without a group of great volunteers on the show committee and a swag of generous sponsors.
“We appreciate the time and effort of our committee and other volunteers, and I’d like to give a special shout out to Secretary Lily Hand – well done Lily, we couldn’t do it without you!” he said.
Entry includes $35 family passes, which includes four children, adults get in for $15, and the gate charge is $10 for children and aged pensioners.
The Platinum Sponsor for the 2025 Bourke Show this year is Maranguka Community Hub, and Gold Sponsors include Bourke Shire council, Bourke Bowling Club, and Spar Supermarket.
Silver sponsors are Dubbo City Toyota & Gilgandra Toyota, Scott McAdam Plumbing, THM Earthmoving, Bourke Waster Management, Green Collar and Pioneer Water Tanks and Bronze sponsors are Bourke Betta, Jandra Pastoral, Kidmans Camp and Bourke & District Children’s Services.
