Council backs Moorambilla opportunity for local youth

Brewarrina Shire Council is backing the work of Moorambilla Voices and the opportunities it provides local young people, with a $2500 contribution to help Brewarrina participants take part in a Sydney creative residency culminating in a performance at the Sydney Opera House on Saturday 3 October.

A report by General Manager, David Kirby to Brewarrina Shire Council’s August meeting highlighted the significant reach Moorambilla Voices has already achieved within the Shire, recording 199 student participations across three local schools during 2025 and 2026.

Two young people from Brewarrina Shire are participating with over 400 other young people in the organisation’s 2026 core program and could progress through the program and represent their community as part of the major cultural experience.

“The opportunity for young people from Brewarrina Shire to perform at the Sydney Opera House is a significant experience and provides an opportunity for local young people to proudly represent Brewarrina and their community on a national cultural stage,” Mr Kirby said. […]
