Cotton growers celebrate – but tougher times ahead

While there’s been scant good news for farmers and graziers in recent months, cotton growers are breathing a sigh of relief as they wrap up the season and look ahead to next season with cautious optimism.

Jason Morton, Manager at Rumleigh just outside Brewarrina, said it had been a good growing year, despite some growers facing water issues.

Next year might be a different story however, as critical water supplies are likely to impact across the region.

“This last season was a bit of a late start and we finished early, which is a bit unusual, and we battled a bit of heat, but it was a good year in the end,” Jason said. […]
