Cooking with culture at Lightning Ridge

Lightning Ridge Central School secondary students showcased their creativity and culinary skills through their Friday Club classes in a Pizza Competition, featuring native food ingredients.

The excitement peaked at Nosh on the Namoi on Saturday, August 30th in Narrabri, where the final judging took place. Celebrity Chef Garry Mehigan from MasterChef Australia was on hand to taste and select the winning pizza entries, adding to the thrill of the day for participating schools.

There were six schools involved in the competition, with prizes across a range of categories. Lightning Ridge Central School made their mark, winning first prize in the Decorating Pizza Box category and placing second in the overall Pizza Competition. The school also won the storytelling component that accompanied their pizza creation.

VET Hospitality, TAS and Food Technology teacher Fran Smith said the competition was a valuable experience for both students and staff. […]
