The class of 2025 has marked a major milestone in Bourke and Lightning Ridge, with Year 12 students farewelled in heartfelt ceremonies ahead of their Higher School Certificate exams next term.

Both communities paused last week to recognise the achievements, resilience, and cultural contributions of their young people as they prepared to take the next step in their lives.

At Bourke High School, 15 students graduated, with 14 able to attend the ceremony. Principal Trent Graham said it was a proud moment not only for the students, but also for their families, teachers, and the wider Bourke community.

“The ceremony really epitomised why I became a teacher and why I got into leadership,” Mr Graham said.

“The students were amazing on stage. They spoke about their year advisor, their teachers, and their families – and acknowledged the wonderful things the school and community had done to support them through to their HSC.”

He noted that many of the students had been together since Year 7, while others had arrived part way through and built strong connections.
